  • What are the hours of operation?

  • Is the experience appropriate for all ages?

    The recommended age for the experience is 3 years and older. Children two and under do not need a ticket to enter.

  • Is National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey accessible to guests with disabilities?

    The experience is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Additionally, we have a limited number of complimentary wheelchairs available on a first-come, first-served basis. National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey is an immersive, interactive cinematic experience and at times includes loud sound effects and large imagery which may be challenging for some. If you have any concerns about your visit, please contact our Guest Services office at info@natgeoencounter.com in advance of your visit.

  • Are strollers allowed inside Encounter?

    Due to the unique, interactive nature of the experience, strollers are not permitted inside of Encounter. Strollers may be placed in our stroller parking area, and retrieved at the end of your visit. Please note that stroller parking space is limited, and not monitored; the Encounter staff cannot be held responsible for any lost articles, so please hold on to any valuable personal belongings.

  • Can I bring food or drinks?

    No outside food or drinks are allowed within the experience. Closed water bottles are permitted.

  • Can we bring our luggage with us?

    For security reasons, large bags and luggage are not permitted. Smaller bags are permitted and are subject to search upon entry. Management reserves the right at its discretion to require guests to check any items or articles considered unsuitable for the experience.

  • Do you allow pets?

    National Geographic Encounter welcomes service animals.

  • Can I take pictures or use my cell phone?

    Photography and video are allowed - and encouraged! We do ask that you please refrain from flash pictures, and that you turn your phone to silent/airplane mode during the experience.

  • Will I get wet?

    No, you won’t literally get wet! Although we are pleased to provide you with an incredible experience in which you feel like you are truly going below the surface of the ocean!

  • Does National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey host private parties or special events?

    We have a state-of-the art private event space and offer a variety of options for your event! If you are interested in hosting your next event with us, please contact or by phone at (646) 439-2070 or visit our website.

  • Is the experience in multiple languages?

    Language translations are integrated in our Explorer Hall.  Subtitles are in Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese and Chinese.

  • I lost something. Whom do I contact?

    You can come to our Guest Services Desk located on the experience level at the bottom of the escalator or you can email us at info@natgeoencounter.com to check if we have your item. If the item you have misplaced has your contact information, we will contact you if we find it.

  • Are there live animals in National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey?

    There are no live animals in Encounter. Instead, we use state-of-the-art, immersive digital technology to enable guests to get an up-close look at some of the ocean’s largest and most interesting creatures at true-to-life-sizes and with exact scientific details. Instead of taking animals out of their homes, we welcome you to theirs.

  • Can I enter the Encounter Retail Experience without a ticket?

    Yes, the Encounter Retail Experience is open to the public and no ticket is needed to enter. The store hours are the same as the Encounter.
